Protecting Your Online Accounts From Cyber Criminals
Speaker: Liam Lynch - L2 Cyber Security Solutions
The 2023 World Password Day global survey from BitWarden showed that 84% of respondents reuse a password on at least one site, with 11% doing so on more than 15 sites. Even more concerning is that 26% of those who reuse their passwords, have been using the same password for more than 10 years. With data breaches occurring on an almost daily basis, people’s credentials on various platforms are at risk of being discovered by cyber criminals who could then use those details to access other platforms, particularly where the password was the same or similar. Accountants regularly store and manage valuable client data on different applications and sometimes on client’s own systems. If somebody used their Facebook password on the client system, that dramatically raises the risk for the client. So, it is important to understand how cyber criminals leverage data breaches and the passwords they discover and then realise that there are easy ways of improving this situation, including the latest innovation of passkeys.
Liam Lynch will cover the following topics during this session:
• Discovering if your online accounts have been compromised
• Seeing how passwords can be uncovered
• Best practices for passwords
• Understanding the different types of authentication factors
• Embracing the secure future with passkeys
By attending this session, you will gain an appreciation for the importance of using long and unique passwords for every site, application and service and how to best manage these. You will then be able to reinforce these passwords with the ultimate in account protection - Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) or the recently introduced technology - Passkeys.
This session will be most beneficial to owners and senior management in a firm.

Social media and employment law is an evolving topic, which we have found applies to almost every employee in the workplace.
Course Level: Foundation – the session is non-technical and will be delivered in plain, simple language.
