78% of business owners go through burnout and accounting firm owners are not immune, in fact the statistics get worse in our industry with 99% of accountants reporting burnout. 85% of accounting professionals admit that burnout negatively affects their work. Burnout has been defined as a real medical condition with distinct causes – which is good news, because despite its increasing prevalence it can actually be stopped and prevented by implementing fairly simple steps in your personal life and your business. Preventing burnout for yourself and your team will result in massive improvements in productivity and profitability, improving your ability to think clearly, act correctly and problem-solve efficiently. Burnt out accountants battle  to meet the industry’s demanding deadlines and standards. By understanding burnout and implementing steps to prevent it for yourself and your team, you build stronger teams and better practices that have happier clients.

In this session Tamryn Dicks will cover the following topics:

  • What burnout is (the official definition)
  • What causes it and how to recognise it
  • The difference between burnout and stress
  • Correcting existing burnout
  • Preventing future burnout

By attending this session, you will be able to recognise burnout in yourself and others and be able to implement simple, easy steps to address it and build a more profitable practice without it.

This session will be of most interest to Bookkeeping and Accounting firm owners, directors or partners.

Tamryn Dicks

Tamryn is an Accidental Accountant (accounting was not in the original life plan!) who set out to be a successful business owner and very fast discovered that being a business owner is much harder than she thought. After three rounds of burnout, Tamryn decided that something had to change, so she reevaluated everything in her life and changed the way she did things. First, she went nomadic and travelled her country for seven years while running her business remotely. While healing her burnout, she spent time learning how to be a business owner. She managed to restructure her business into an actual business (not a job!) that could run without her. She also turned out to be a glutton for punishment with an irrepressible urge to start new businesses. Human Edge was created to help accounting firms find great, productive team members with the least amount of effort, stress and admin. Tamryn’s background in accounting, her experience in hiring for her own firm and in building her own team, and her experience in running 100% digital and remote-working businesses, all combined to make her the perfect person to help UK accountants find amazing remote-working team members. In her own words: “I believe my perspective is unique - as an accountant, I understand your business finances and can help you understand them, but as a business owner myself, I understand what matters to you!”
