Course Details

This course will discuss the dilemmas, challenges and new strategies available in preparing a private business for sale; knowing if, when and how to involve the next generation in a tax efficient manner when a sale could be imminent and flexibility is important; anticipating tax based deal breakers in advance; setting the business up for a tax efficient sale and balancing tax efficient access to proceeds against maximising them.

In this session David Keary covers the following topics,

  • The sale or succeed dilemma, the costs of doing nothing versus succession planning at the wrong time and in the wrong way when a sale offer
  • Highlighting strategies available to implement a tax efficient pre-sale plan while still giving flexibility to change course in the future.
  • Pre-empting tax based deal issues that can be commercial deal breakers
  • Navigating CGT Participation Exemption and some of its unusual anomalies both good and bad.
  • Understanding that maximising tax-free sales proceeds on exit has to be balanced with tax efficient personal access to funds.
